If you pit podcasting against blogging, blogging is going to win every time. The reason is time.
I can scan a blog post in a second and read it in under 5 minutes. Most podcasts are more than 5 minutes - some of the best ones are 20 or more minutes. There are a lot of excellent podcasts that I wish I could follow, but I don't have the hours to do that.

n fact, I very rarely listen to podcasts at all, even though they download automatically to iTunes. Looking at my library, I have over one hundred podcasts downloaded that I've never listened to.
