
The National Geographic person talked about the need for maintaining brand and ensuring that the National Geographic culture wasn't harmed. As an example she talked about showing a whale carcass being destroyed by dynamite. She'd intend to have a video clip in the blog post as a humorous adjunct to her post, but it was deleted because "National Geographic doesn't blow up whales."
The Nordstrom person is investigating corporate blogging and the two Microsofties blog on a product blog as well as personal blogs. They all agreed that the topic of blogging within a corporate setting wasn't addressed well. What it really needs is a presentation by corporate bloggers outside of Microsoft - let's say GM, Dell, Earthlink, etc. It is nice to say that incorporating personal life into a corporate blog is good, but is it always practical...or doable.
