Using applications that are accesssible via networking and served from proprietary computers means that:
- Companies can more easily backup documents and data;
- Documents and data are more easily controlled by the company - access can be limited and monitored;
- Upgrading software means changing one application at the server - rather than hundreds or thousands of individual copies at each desktop;
- For offline use, data can be checked in and out - enabling the company to know just who is using data offline, resulting in greater security and accountability.






Precisely! Another cool aspect is that it can allow people to collaborate more efficiently. I never thought about companies doing that, but it seems like a fantastic idea... its all just a matter of integrating it all together!
