A specific situation where a breaking news blog would work well is a printing company. I worked for 10 years for a printing company with admin offices, prepress, sheet presses, bindery and shipping in one city, and web and heat presses in another. Production held two meetings a day - a long one in the morning covering scheduling and process, and a short one in late afternoon to highlight movement.
A delay in one project effects other projects in a chain-reaction as press time, bindery time, etc is all finite. So how about a blog where all areas of production can immediately post what is going on. Jobs going on and off the press, machinery breakdowns or maintenance, delivery, could all be blogged quickly.
(Before I get a bunch of comments - I know there is specialized print management software that handles workflow...)
I see use for this in a number of businesses, not just manufacturing.
