Business 2.0 Says US Business Shouldn't Give Up on SMS

Know More: SMS, Text Messaging 2.0, Text Messaging

Hugely popular everywhere in the world except the US, SMS, or text messaging, is just starting to reach its tipping point in the US. While citizens of other countries average 100-200 messages a month, people in the US send, on average, only 50.

Business needs to look at SMS hard. The August 2006 issue of Business 2.0 gives example of business use of SMS in other countries:

In Finland users can text messages to TV shows and see the chat scroll on the screen. They also have TV shows where you can direct a character.
A British Columbia, Canada, startup allows texting during sporting events, including predicting the next play.
In the UK consumers can purchase CDs and DVDs by texting a number featured in an advertisement.

The key is for business to start figuring out now how SMS can benefit their business, so they can be on the leading wave when it really hits the US.
