Zoho Writer Now Offers Real-Time Document Editing

Zoho Writer, a web-based text editor, just announced real-time document editing. Two or more people can edit the same document at the same time and see the changes almost immediately.

Zoho Writer handles this in a unique way - each user chooses a block to edit, usually a paragraph. That block is then locked for any other user. Changes made to the block are seen immediately by others in the document. Simultaneously, other users can be editing other blocks. The Zoho Writer blog has screen shots that make the process perfectly clear.

I really like this idea. Users can so who else is editing and monitor the edits. Imagine a conference call where different parts of a document were edited by different participants, but all participants could see the changes as they are talked about. I'd like to see this implemented in Zoho Sheet, their spreadsheet application.
Other changes include the ability to customize the email that notifies users that they are authorized to share a Zoho document and file management is also enhanced.

My pleasure! I'm going to be reviewing the rest of the Zoho applications within the next week or two.

Real-time collaboration for spreadsheets would be so incredibly useful for all size of businesses - I'll be excited to see it implemented.
