Blogging, Instant Messaging to Replace Email?

Another article about the decline of email. The biggest reason is that we are just getting so much of it - not to mention it is not 'instant' enough.

I've been asked to create a secured-access internal blog for a company so that important information for managers need not be communicated through email. It appears that

Managers were missing important emails
Managers weren't checking their email on a daily basis (they don't work in front of computers all day)
Confidential emails were being forwarded outside the company

By changing to a blog format the company can see who has/hasn't logged in and can better control access.
