Assessing Web Collaboration Applications: Central Desktop
I reviewed Central Desktop not long ago, so I'll stick with comparing it with the other applications here:
  • Sharepoint - I actually prefer Central Desktop for small to medium businesses.  It is cheaper and easier to use.  Since the company is smaller than Microsoft you also have a better chance of getting your suggestions for changes or add-ins in front of the right people.
  • Groove - I like the ability to work offline with Groove, but Central Desktops meticulous revision tracking trumps that convenience.
  • Basecamp - Central Desktop is much more flexible that Basecamp and offers more features.  However, if you don't need those features, they come out about the same in my book.
  • CollectiveX and 30Boxes - For techphobic clients or to set up a family group where members aren't likely to be very web savvy, CollectiveX and 30Boxes are just fine.  For real work, Central Desktop beats them hands-down.

Hi,

Thanks for the review of Central Desktop. I did think it was a bit short, but I am looking into them myself. So I might post one later on. I've already made reviews of Jotspot and Socialtext, which I think could be real handy in the workplace. For the reviews: http://lunaticthought.blogspot.com

What about this one? Their blog says they just launched today.

GroupLoop.com

Thanks for the reviews. I was looking at basecamp and Groove--basecamp looks simple. I like Grooves ability to be on my site but after downloaing it looks like a hguge learning curve. Looking at Central Desktop now-- wish they allowed more users.

Thanks for your review. It's always helpful to get information of this sort. I'm a happy user of Wrike :)though. I like it better than Central Desktop. I guess Wrike's just more mobile. I'm using it even when I'm not in the office. It's possible with my PDA so when I'm stuck in a traffic jam I'm still working. You might wanna read this to make sure http://www.wrike.com/blog/7/21/2007/Mobile_project_management_in_Wrike_with_BlackBerry

How about Unfuddle.com? project collaboration for software developers as well as general project management tools for everyone. time tracking, bug tracking, milestones, etc..

I find that teamworklive is really good however, unless I misunderstood their deal, their per user licensing is a bit expensive for a small business 10 users would be $100 month...
