Connotea grabs scientific journal and website bibliographic information, including author and journal name, automatically. The application also imports and exports references in RIS format, which is used by many desktop reference managers. For academic publishers, Connotea supports DOIs and OpenURL.
Planned is the ability to search on the author/title/publication fields in addition to keywords.
The only downside I see (as a non-scientist) is the inability to add information relating to non-web links - links from books or journals not online. With this functionality, Connotea would probably be a great overall tracking source for scientists.
