Eric Rice recently hosted a BarCamp in Second Life with 15+ attendees. Here's his summary. There's even a Flickr feed.
According to 3pointD.com, "OPAL (Online Programming for All Libraries), “an international collaborative effort by libraries of all types to provide Web-based programs and training for library users and library staff members,” is about to start operating in Second Life." The announcement itself says that "book discussions, training sessions, and other programs will be offered to current virtual residents. The goal of the project is to promote the real library and online library services to adults who might not otherwise use the library."
Eric Kaplan has created a loft apartment in Second Life for Regina Spektor, and will hold a virtual release party.
For those of you who haven't checked it out yet, Second Life is a 3D virtual worlds with buildings, houses, stores, casinos and gardens. You can buy and sell within the world using virtual money. People make money by designing games that you pay to play, or objects like clothes, furniture, even land and houses. The virtual money can be change to real money, so Second Life could provide an income.
If you are a Second Life user who has ideas about how to use it for doing business, contact me and maybe we can get together inside.

I run a company that specializes in helping businesses understand and harness the power of virtual worlds.
