Now Symantec announces a new product designed to control what up till now has been the cyber equivalent of a lawless and wild West among IM users.
From Matt Hines' article in eWeek, we read:
'John Sakoda, senior director of product management for enterprise messaging at Symantec, said the security threat from IM could potentially be greater than that from e-mail because "many companies have no grasp of what all their employees are doing with IM."
"A lot of people use IM because they know it's unmonitored and unsupervised; beyond the initial security issues, there's lots of interesting rich data traversing in IM clients, generally because people know they're not being watched," said Sakoda.'
According to Hines, Symantec IM Manager 8.0 will also impact the use of VoIP, which most of the IM platforms support.
