What does a game that some estimate to be 4,000 years old have to do with a contemporary tool of business intelligence? They both rely on the critical component of strategic forecasting, and of aligning strategy with action.
Go Strategy: Make territory while attacking.Success in attacking which isn’t aimed at killing, should gather territory, build up a framework, or construct influence in a useful direction.
- Set objectives (which is the goal of their business strategy)
- Measure their success at achieving those objectives (known as Key Performance Indicators)
- Set targets (an expected level of performance)
When ahead on points, do not engage your opponent in risky fights, nor devise complex maneuvers. When behind on points, seek out any advantage and embrace risk as an ally. If you do not know if you’re behind or ahead, you cannot effectively choose nor implement a strategy.
“If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.”
