Sharing, tagging, social networking and real-time collaboration are all part of the Web 2.0 movement towards developing communal web-based applications. Now, thanks to the folks at 83 degrees, we can collaborate with our calendars. Their beta release of 30 Boxes is scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th. Fortunately, we can get a sneak preview before then over at Thomas Hawk's blog.
Have you noticed how often the best ideas are the simplest ones? We share our bookmarks at Del.icio.us and our photos at Flickr. With 30 Boxes, you build your own social network by inviting your friends to see your calendar. This sounds like a really cool idea to me, and I'm anxious to try it out. I'm thinking of scheduling a puppy birthday party with it.
One of our dogs, a sun-bleached female pit bull who I rescued from a warehouse parking lot about 6 years ago, just had puppies. It was totally un-planned for, and now we have to find homes for 3 precious, smart and very friendly little Pit Bull mixes. From what I can tell, 30 Boxes should allow me to create the event, upload some pics, and send it out to as many people as I have e-mail addresses for. They, in turn, will be able to accept or decline my invitation. I'll let you know how it goes.
Obviously, since the site goes public on Sunday, I'll visit 83 degrees the moment I know that the Seattle Seahawks have become Super Bowl champions!

I signed up for the 30 Boxes beta and look forward to trying it out. Right now, like many people I am using Yahoo's calendar a little, but otherwise am quite disorganized compared to where I want to be. C'mon, Google, add a calendar alongside Gmail!
